The point of this article will be to dispel a long standing myth about Polish girls being easy. There seems to be a growing number of articles and forum posts online that suggest that Polish women are not only easy to score a date with, but also that most of them are promiscuous. Obviously this myth is absolutely untrue and it's also derogatory and offensive to not just all Polish women themselves, but also to Polish men which most of whom take great pride in their lovely female counterparts. As I'll explain in depth below this age old myth is rooted in some pretty ugly Polish stereotypes, xenophobia, ignorance, and probably a little racism as well, though I use that word sparingly as it's so overplayed in this day and age. If you yourself are or have been guilty of propagating Polish stereotypes such as this one then please do take the time to consider the fact that it isn't based in truth. Poland is a great place with amazing traditions, culture, and dynamic people.
Probably the earliest origin of the Polish girls are easy myth is rooted in post World War II Europe and also Poland's time spent as a part of the communist Soviet bloc, also known as the Eastern bloc. As most of you are probably already aware Poland was ravaged by World War II as was most of Europe. After the war ended Poles and other Europeans immigrated in mass to places like the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. During this time many negative stereotypes began to emerge that Eastern Europeans and women in particular would do anything for a green card or full citizenship. Rumors stated that non Polish men should watch out for Polish girls because all they want is a visa so that they don't have to live in Poland. These sorts of ugly stereotypes are often aimed at immigrants within new countries as some people attempt to force them into a lower social position which is likely due to their own insecurities regarding their socioeconomic status.
Another possible source of the Polish girls are easy myth is likely rooted in money and national economics. While a part of the Soviet bloc Poland's economic foundation was greatly diminished, especially towards the collapse of the communist system. Personal income levels in Poland at this time were tiny compared to the average income levels in places like the United States, Australia, and parts of Western Europe. This great economic disparity between nations was played up by Hollywood and Western European films makers leading to a large amount of derogatory stereotypes about all Polish and Eastern European women. Again the angle that these women would do anything for money appeared in film after film and that they were in particular very promiscuous. What the films and books of this era did not show you is that Poland is one of the most conservative Catholic nations on the earth, but this image was likely too boring for all the communist spy movies.
In the previous paragraphs above I have been discussing the much older origins of the Polish girls are easy myth. There is a very modern source however which continues to propel the stereotype forward instead of letting it die as an untruth. This modern driving force are the travelers to Poland who instead of exploring Poland's rich historic and cultural treasures they spend most of their time in Poland's pubs and bars. Naturally if the only side of Poland that you know is that which relates to the inside of a seedy Polish pub then of course most of the country's girls will seem easy. Just ask a drunk British stag party member wandering around Krakow what he thinks of Polish women, of course he'll tell you they're easy. The hard cold truth is that most Polish girls don't hang out in pubs non stop, however the tiny minority who do seem to be setting in stone the reputation for all of Poland's females. That wraps up this brief article, we hope that you learned a thing or two.
Michael from Dublin Ireland sent our staff the following question. He asked are most Polish girls devoutly Catholic? Most Polish females are indeed Catholic however not all of them are devoutly Catholic or deeply religious. You will certainly find a large number of deeply religious women in Poland and certainly in greater numbers than you would in the United States or the United Kingdom, however there are also many non practicing Polish Christians as well. I would say that currently a very small minority of Polish girls are fully atheist or completely reject religion.
Culturally Poland is a very Christian and a very Catholic nation, a fact that should be quite apparent when one considers Pope John Paul II's Polish nationality. Poland's Christian roots go all the way back to 966 when Mieszko I declared it to be the official religion of the country. Under communist rule in Poland personal religious freedoms were greatly restricted, so that has certainly strengthened many Poles affinity towards being openly or devoutly religious, even with many younger Poles today.
